26 ment electronic titling this year and next to allow efficiencies and customer conve- nience. On the “Giving Back” side we will take a strong united stand to support our Wounded Warriors. I am also very excited about the Texas Dealer Academy growing to almost 75 members and I look forward to seeing great success in this organization preparing our young people to be future dealers and GMs. What is your approach tohelpingdeal- ers face challenges at their dealerships? Be involved in TADA Conferences and meetings. The workshops each October are great informative sessions that allow each of us to learn of present issues. Attendance at conferences allow dealers to meet our highly regarded and trusted Endorsed Companies who can assist us with great offerings and services. Are you involved in any civic or chari- table organizations? I am actively involved in my Rotary Club of San Antonio. I lead the “Kingdom for Kids” project with Rotary and City Year San Antonio each year. Our club has built and completed 12 playgrounds in inner city schools, libraries and at the Autism Treat- ment Center since 1997. I am involved at the UnitedWay on the Executive Commit- tee and Chair Elect for 2015. I am proud to say that the Cavender Auto Family leads all others in the automotive segment in contributions to our United Way. We also stay active with numerous charities by host- ing events to support Cystic Fibrosis, the National Association for Women Business Owners, Girls Inc, and the Bexar County Medical Society here at our Audi facility annually. What do you thinkmakesmembership in the TADA beneficial? Unity in voice and action can properly describe the benefit that TADA provides. Join 1,100 TADA members who provide 2% of all Texas retail business and 16% of all Texas retail sales. Learn from others and receive tremendous benefits from TADA Legal and Legislative Staff. Describe your all-time favorite vehicle (it canbe one you’ve owned, or something on your wish list). I was pretty happy in my 1981 DeLorean demo right out of college. I was at our auto show this week and saw a DeLorean in a “Back to the Future” display. I have to say, I still think the car has great lines and the gull wings were classic! Wonder why a movie was never made about this car and its founder John Z. DeLorean. Tell us about your family. My high school sweetheart is my lovely wife Suzanne and we have been mar- ried happily for 32 years. I have a lovely daughter Courtney who is married to a successful local architect by the name of Tobin Smith. Courtney teaches art at an elementary school here. My youngest daughter Claire is currently working as an inventory assistant at Jim Faulk Lexus in Los Angeles. She is preparing to hopefully join our operations in the near future. What’s your favoriteway to spend your free time (we imagine you don’t get much of it!)? Any unusual hobbies? Not sure I have “free time” for much of anything. Along with the role I play as dealer at Cavender Audi, I also have led a 6 piece band for the past 30 years… (Wow I am getting old!) I enjoy performing over 30 events a year. I have recorded 4 CDs of original songs and I just completed my role as a “Band Leader” in David Kaufmann’s feature film “The Song,” starring Cheyanne Jackson, Kevin Pollack and Christopher Lloyd! I also play a little golf and I like to run and cycle.
