T ADA Dealer Academy Trustee Tim Crenwelge provided another blockbuster session for TADA’s young dealers in June at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Dallas. NADA 20 GroupManager for Dealer Operations, Steve Emery and notable Texas dealer Carl Sewell presented a truly outstanding program for academy members. Steve Emery provided four hours of hands on training in dealership operations, including composite summaries of expense benchmarks for every vehicle make represented by the dealers in attendance. Each member also received a copy of the NADA Operating and Expense Profile for every dealership department to use back home in the dealership. Dealer Academy members also went to work during the meeting to analyze their own dealerships’ fixed operations with templates provided by Mr. Emery. The training was intense and extremely productive. Carl Sewell is one of the most respected dealers in the country. The demands on his time are beyond imagination. However, he was determined to be a part of this meeting for our next generation of Texas dealers, and they hung on his every word as he shared his keys for success in business and in life. Mr. Sewell’s interest in the future of the industry and the next generation of dealers is influenced by the role that his own children, Jacqueline 33 and Carl III 30, occupy as executives of the Sewell organization. Carl Sewell has taken a family owned enterprise that had one dealership and $10 million in sales in 1967 to one of the largest pri- vately held dealer groups in the world with fourteen dealerships and $1.6 billion in annual sales. Throughout this evolution, the Sewell name has become synonymous with the highest quality of customer service as well as personal integrity of the dealer family and staff.
