18 T ony Gullo, Sr. has a love for Christmas, children, and serving others...together you have Christmas for Kids. He began Christmas for Kids in 1992. Every year he has a charity golf tournament to raise money for Christmas for Kids. The employees at Gullo Ford, Toyota, and Mazda also contribute to this charity monetarily and voluntarily helping at the golf tournament and the day of the big party. Christmas for Kids hosts a big Christmas party on the showroom floor of Gullo Ford. Sixty to sixty five families have been submitted by the Conroe ISD counselors. Tony Gullo, Sr., along with his elves, cook hamburgers, hot dogs, and french fries to be served to the families. There are many games and activities for the children to take part in after they eat. There is face painting, wax hands, ponies, sand art, to name a few, and of course Santa. Each family is given a gift card and the money is based on how many children are in the family. The families are also given a ham, tree, lights, and ornaments. In 2002, Mr. Gullo added two new programs to Christmas for Kids....EARNING BY LEARNING AND THE MONT- GOMERY COUNTY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM. Earn- ing by Learning is a reading incentive program for third graders. They read a book, do a report, and earn a buck. The program lasts for six weeks and then Mr. Gullo returns and gives the students the money they have earned. At the present time we have six elementary schools in Conroe participating in this program. Mr. Gullo wanted to reach out to the older children and include all of Montgomery County. The scholarship program enables us to do this. There are 12 public high schools in Montgomery County that benefit from the scholarships. The scholarships are $1500 and we usually give out 15-20 scholarships each year. Gullo Companies Christmas for Kids Riager Photos
