18 Estimated Motor Vehicle Tax Collected and Remitted by Texas Franchised New Car and Truck Dealers Texas Dealers Contribution To The State Exceeds Dealership Net Profits Texas’ almost 1,300 franchised dealerships in aggregate netted just over one billion dollars after federal income tax in a year. The state of Texas realizes three times that much just from the motor vehicle sales tax collected and remitted to the comptroller’s office. MVST has increased by over $400 million per year in the past four years, making Texas new car and truck dealers an essential economic engine for Texas.
