First, one of his childhood friends had a cousin that he wanted our winner to meet and he was star- struck for life, and very soon after, they heard wedding bells. Second, he got a job as a salesman at Ryan Oldsmobile in Fort Worth. This was 1971, and the beginning of 45 years in the automobile industry. Through his own ambition, talent and dedication and the support of his remarkable wife, our winner went on to owning a dealership in Tulsa, Oklahoma and eventually Abilene, Texas. Today he is not only one of the leading car deal- ers in West Texas but along with his wife, a prominent leader in Abilene and the surrounding communities. The rambunctious drag-racing kid still enjoys riding a motorcycle, but now with his wife alongside, the two having started out on Honda 175’s. Our winner definitely leads by example, being named one of the top dealerships in America to work for by Automotive News; business person of the year in Abilene; Honorary Commander of Military Affairs at Dyess Air Force Base; and a board member of the Abilene Education Foundation and a dozen other area boards and commissions. Truly a self-made man, inspired by his wife of 45 years whose own determination and the love and support of her husband and children recently defeated an illness that threatened her very life.
