Pub. 58 2017-2018 Issue 2

25 WINTER 2017 Cuellar and Will Hurd from South Texas and Jodey Arrington from the Panhandle. The discussions withMembers focused onNADA’s top legislative priorities headed into the fall. Deal- ers advocated for the preservation of state vehicle licensing and franchise laws in any legislation re- garding autonomous vehicles. The dealers voiced opposition to overly broad vehicle recall bills that would force the automatic grounding of any vehicle under an open recall, no matter the nature or seri- ousness of the vehicle issue. Dealers also discussed during this time the tax reform bill being formulated by the House and Senate tax writing committees. Dealers advocated for pass through entities to be treated fairly with rate reductions comparable to the corporate rate reductions, maintaining the LIFO inventory ac- counting method, eliminating the estate tax, and preserving the deductibility of interest incurred for floor plan financing. The dealers on these visits made a significant impact on the Members visited with their knowledge of the issues, their leadership in their dealerships and their communities, and their enthusiasm to advocate for the franchised dealers of Texas. Thanks to all who participated. 
