6 (New York, NY, December 4, 2017) – The nomination of Jim Janke, president of Tommie Vaughn Ford in Houston, Texas, for the 2018 TIME Dealer of the Year award was announced today by TIME. Janke is one of a select group of 47 dealer nominees from across the countr y who wil l be honored at the National Automobile Dealers Association’s 2018 NADA Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, on March 23, 2018. The announcement of this year’s nominees was made by Meredith Long, senior vice president and general manager, News, Luxury & Style, TIME, and Tim Russi, president of auto f inance for Ally Financial. “We salute this exceptional group of nominees for the 2018 TIME Dealer of the Year award,” Russi said. “These dealers are local pillars of strength, leadership and giving, and Ally is proud to celebrate their stories and recognize them for their commitment to ‘do it right’ in their communities.” In its seventh yea r as exc lusive sponsor, Ally will recognize dealer nominees and thei r communit y efforts by contributing $1,000 to each nominee’s 501(c)3 cha r it y of choice. Nominees will also be recognized on AllyDealerHeroes.com, which highlights the philanthropic contributions and achievements of TIME Dealer of the Year nominees. The TIME Dealer of the Year award is one of the automobile industry’s most prestigious and highly coveted honors. Recipients are among the nation’s most successful auto dealers who also demonstrate a long-standing commitment to community service. Janke, 64, was chosen to represent the Texas Automobile Dealers Association in the national competition – one of only 47 auto dealers from more than 16,500 nationwide – nominated for the 49th annual award. The award is sponsored by TIME in association with Ally Financial, and in cooperation with NADA. A panel of facult y members from the Tauber Institute for Global Operations at the University of Michigan will select one finalist from each of the four NADA regions and one national Dealer of the Year. “I am most rewarded by my everyday work at the dealership, interacting with customers and employees,” nominee Janke said. “In addition, I am aware that a stable work environment will foster a future for my growing family. I attribute my accomplishments to the team that surrounds me, my family and my employees.” A 1972 graduate of Lee High School in Houston, Janke earned a B.B.A. in marketing from the University of Texas at Austin in 1976, where he was a member of the Texas Cowboys, a service group, and Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, which he led as president. Janke’s interest in the automobile industry was piqued by a college professor who had worked on the initial marketing campaign for the Ford Mustang – and by his college sweetheart, Jeanie Vaughn, whose father owned a car dealership in Houston.
