16 I first met Bill i n 19 79 o r 1980 just out of SMU when I went to work with my Dad. Bill was heading up the TADA 20 group program at that time and he had our Buick 20 group. Over my career, Bill Wolters and TADA have been synonymous in my mind. Bill has done more for Texas Dealers than most of us recognize. Bill knows everyone and always has been so will- ing to help when I have had a question or needed something. I count Bill as a dear friend and wish for him many seasons of watching Texas high school football with family and friends. Jim Snell, Jaguar Land Rover I am blessed to call Bill Wolters my friend. This was a specia l cake I had made to honor and recognize him for his many years of service to TADA and the rest of us as well. He is a dear friend as well as a zealous advocate for dealers and the communities they serve. Bob Weaver, Tennessee Automotive Association Being Chair- man-Elect at a very inter- e s t i ng t ime in the life of TADA was a very special learning process for me. We had a Governor who wanted to place his candidate into the President position at TADA to control our as- sociation. The Association was riddled with debt and expenses and little cash, and we needed the correct President to lead us back into a better financial condition. Bill Wolters was recognized by most members and all Past Chair- men as the person we had to place in our Presidency position. No one else could fit the needs of our association. All of his supporters worked very hard fighting for Bill to lead our organiza- tion back, and he did so in a very short time. His leadership, stamina, and love of TADA and its members brought us back where we belonged. Thank You, Bill, for building TADA into the best Automobile Association in the USA by far! That's my two cents, and it comes directly from my heart! Tomy Hamon, Hamon Ford I f irst met Bill Wolt- ers through my fa- ther, Charles Nash, and Gene Fondren (Execut i ve Di rec- tor of TADA 1972- 2003, and Bill’s boss at the time). Bill, as President of TADA, was instrumental in instilling policies to keep operating expenses in line with revenues. His leadership skills made him a person that others wanted to work with. The staff he has put together over his 38 years at TADA is one of the best, working for all the dealers. Bill and my father were instrumental in getting the TADA “Headquarters” building (also known as 1108 Lavaca) built for Texas dealers. My Dad had the vision and plan, but Bill carried it through. The location a block away from the Capitol was important to TADA’s success. Building a larger of- fice building with parking and outside tenants to pay for it was a grand plan in 2003. But J.L. Huffines and Bob Brown authorized a project that did not require dealers to contribute to a capital campaign. We are all thankful for the foresight of these great men. Bill always has a smile on his face and an outstretched arm to give you the biggest hug. He never forgets a face or a name, and he remembers every single detail about your family. He makes you feel like you are a real friend. The feeling is mutual. Bill created the TADA Legends award that has been given out to 18 deserving recipients. The award rec- ognizes those dealers whose lifetime of achievement sets them apart from all others. I was touched that my fa- ther received the award on the 100th anniversary of TADA. Bill himself is “larger than life” to Texas dealers for his service to each of us. I hope Bill enjoys his well-deserved time off.
