Representatives from Smith Auto Family in Levelland recently presented a 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E to the South Plains College (SPC) automotive service technology program.
Patrick and Annette Sykora of Smith Auto Family designated $32,000 in grants from the NADA Foundation to the SPC Foundation for the purchase of the vehicle. Smith Auto Family has had a long-standing relationship with the college, supporting the automotive program for many years.
“Throughout the years, we have donated several vehicles to the program, because for these students to have real-world experience, they need to work on vehicles,” said Annette Sykora, dealer principal of Smith Auto Family. “I think this is a great program for us to have here in West Texas.”
Students in the program had the chance to view the Mustang, which will be used in lessons regarding the functions of electric vehicles.
“This vehicle will be a great addition to the SPC automotive technology program,” said Gary Ham, automotive program coordinator at the SPC Levelland campus. “We can teach the theory of EVs and offer hands-on training in advanced automotive technologies, such as advanced driver assistance systems, vehicle networks, infotainment systems and electric propulsion systems.”
